Abroad
Our chair offers students the opportunity to spend time abroad as part of the SOKRATES exchange program.
SOKRATES, established by the European Union to promote cross-border co-operation in the field of education, was approved on the 14th March 1995 to run until the end of 1999 and incorporated the 15 Member States of the European Union, as well as Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary. Malta and Cyprus joined during the first phase of the program (1995 – 1999). The second phase of the program ran from 2000 – 2006.
SOKRATES supports, amongst other areas, university education (through ERASMUS). The SOKRATES / ERASMUS program aims to intensify co-operation between universities in Europe. There are national agencies in every ERASMUS country which give advice on applying and provide mobility grants for ERASMUS students and tutors from the participating universities. DAAD has been appointed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as the national SOKRATES / ERASMUS agency for Germany.
